Understanding Peru Tax System
Peru uses a Progressive Income Tax System where tax rates increase with income. The tax system is administered by SUNAT (Superintendencia Nacional de Aduanas y de Administración Tributaria) and uses UIT (Unidad Impositiva Tributaria) as a reference unit for tax brackets and exemptions.
2026 Tax Brackets (based on UIT):
- 0% - Up to 7 UIT (approximately PEN 38,500)
- 8% - 7 to 20 UIT (approximately PEN 38,501 to PEN 110,000)
- 14% - 20 to 35 UIT (approximately PEN 110,001 to PEN 192,500)
- 17% - 35 to 45 UIT (approximately PEN 192,501 to PEN 247,500)
- 20% - Over 45 UIT (over approximately PEN 247,500)
Additional Information:
- Personal exemption: 7 UIT (approximately PEN 38,500)
- Essalud (Social Security): 9% of gross salary
- UIT value is updated annually by SUNAT
