The Developer

About Me

I'm a software engineer at a Fortune 100 company, and I've been building things professionally for about six years now. I have a Master's in Computer Science and a minor in Economics—the econ part probably explains why I care about this stuff in the first place.

I built this site because I got tired of the alternatives. Most tax calculator sites out there look like they haven't been touched since 2010, and good luck trying to use them on your phone. Tiny inputs, layouts that break on small screens, pop-ups and ads everywhere. It shouldn't be that hard to figure out how much you'll actually take home.

This is a side project for me—something I work on in the evenings and weekends. I don't have a big team or investors. I built it because I thought people deserved better, and I plan to keep maintaining it for the long haul. Tax laws change, and I want this to stay useful. If it helps even a few people understand their paycheck a bit better, that's enough for me.

Because I'm the only person maintaining this, bugs do occasionally slip through — especially with calculation edge cases across 30+ countries. If you spot something that looks off, please send me an email. Bug reports are genuinely the most useful thing you can do to help improve the site.

Accuracy & Trust

How we ensure our calculations are reliable and trustworthy

Official Source-Based Calculations

All our tax calculations are based exclusively on official government publications and current tax laws. We do not use third-party estimates or outdated information. Every calculation is verified against the latest tax tables and regulations published by official tax authorities.

Regular Updates

We update our calculators annually to reflect the latest tax brackets, rates, and regulations. Our 2026 calculations are based on the most recent tax law changes and official publications. We monitor tax authority websites and publications to ensure our tools remain current throughout the tax year.

Transparent Methodology

We believe in transparency. Our calculation methodology is clearly documented, and we provide references to all official sources used in our calculations. Users can verify our results against official tax authority publications.

No Data Collection

Your privacy is important to us. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal financial information. All calculations are performed locally in your browser. We do not use cookies for tracking purposes, and we do not share your data with third parties.

Calculation Methodology

How we calculate taxes accurately and transparently

Progressive Tax Bracket System

Our calculators use a progressive tax bracket system, which means different portions of your income are taxed at different rates. We apply the marginal tax rates to each portion of income falling within each bracket, ensuring accurate calculations that match how tax authorities actually calculate taxes.

Standard Deductions & Credits

We apply standard deductions and tax credits according to the rules of each respective tax authority. Deductions reduce your taxable income, while credits directly reduce your tax liability. All deduction and credit amounts are based on 2026 tax law.

Payroll Taxes

For countries that have payroll taxes (such as Social Security and Medicare in the US, or CPP and EI in Canada), we calculate these taxes based on current rates and wage base limits. These calculations are separate from income tax and are based on gross income.

State/Provincial Taxes

For countries with sub-national tax jurisdictions (such as US states or Canadian provinces), we calculate state/provincial taxes based on the specific rates and brackets for each jurisdiction. All rates are based on 2026 tax law.

Important Disclaimer: Our tax calculators provide estimates based on 2026 tax law and should be used for planning purposes only. Actual tax amounts may vary based on your specific situation, additional deductions, credits, or changes in tax law. Tax laws are complex and can change. For official tax filing and professional tax advice, we strongly recommend consulting with a qualified tax professional or referring to your country's official tax authority. We are not responsible for any errors or omissions in our calculations, or for any decisions made based on the information provided by our calculators.

Questions, Bugs & Feedback

I'm always working to make the calculations more accurate. If something looks wrong — a tax figure that seems off, a broken feature, or a rate that hasn't been updated — please let me know. As a solo developer, I rely on user reports to catch issues I might miss.

For the most accurate and up-to-date tax information, please refer to your country's official tax authority website, which we've linked throughout this page.
